Topic: Coronavirus Response Team efforts in the neighborhood (zip code 14215)
The National Witness Project outreach team is knocking on doors in the 14215 zip code, a neighborhood that has been especially hard hit by Coronavirus. They’ve knocked on 3,000 doors in 30 days, and have a goal to knock on at least 12,000 more. Outreach team members cover a variety of topics with the community members they visit–from medical care, mental health, food insecurity, health literacy, voting, the census, and health insurance. Their mission is to alleviate any challenges related to the community’s needs. The outreach team encourages people to visit their primary care physician for basic health needs, chronic conditions, and testing, and provides transportation if needed. They also connect people to food banks and other community resources. When the organization saw that many patients struggled to use their mobile devices to attend telehealth visits with their doctors, they established a team to walk people through the process of getting connected. The National Witness Project urges anyone with a need to call them at 716-845-3383.
