Al Hammonds, Millennium Executive Director, kicks off “Shift To Value Based Payment” Conference at Buffalo’s Adam’s Mark.

BUFFALO, NY – Wed., June 6, 2018 — Over 350 representatives from organizations spanning the Western New York regional healthcare spectrum attended “The Shift To Value Based Payment” today at the Adam’s Mark Hotel in downtown Buffalo.

The conference is co-hosted by New York State Performing Provider Systems Millennium Collaborative Care and Community Partners of WNY, in partnership with the Western New York chapters of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and Healthcare Executives Forum.

“Value Based Payments (VBPs) are no longer a vague or futuristic concept. In fact, New York State has already begun the transition away from fee-for-service and has mandated VBP be implemented by 2020,” said Al Hammonds, Executive Director, Millennium Collaborative Care. “Our primary objective in convening this conference and bringing in a high-powered lineup of VBP experts is to educate our regional partners and enable them to be at the forefront of transforming the healthcare industry. VBP is an innovative approach where providers focus on the delivery of quality care.”

“The current ‘Fee for Service’ system has not demonstrated sustained improvement in patient outcomes or been effective in decreasing the number of patients using hospital emergency rooms as their first choice for primary care,” said Amy L. White-Storfer, Director, Community Partners of WNY. “The shift to a Value-Based Payment system is key to transforming the State’s Medicaid healthcare delivery system from a fragmented in-patient care focused system to an integrated community-based system.”

The conference featured  a series of presentations by nationally recognized experts on Value-Based Payment and performance including Jason Helgerson of Helgerson Solutions Group and former Director of the NYS Medicaid Program; Eric Linzer, President & CEO at New York Health Plan Association; Ryan Ashe, MPA, PMP, Director of Medicaid Payment Reform at NYS; and Frank Winter, Partnership Manager at Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, to name a few.

The day-long forum is also offering a wide array of targeted break-out sessions and collaborative discussions focused on delivering practical information to enable VBP implementation success by primary care physicians; behavioral health organizations; community based organizations; and providers from across the entire healthcare spectrum.
