The doors of Bennett High School open at 5 p.m. for “Buffalo Health Matters – A Community Conversation”, organized in response to the ongoing issue of opiates and prescription abuse. What is different about this free event is that it is an opportunity for the community to get involved in the conversation about how substance abuse goes hand-in-hand with mental health issues.
Karl Shallowhorn, Director of Community Advocacy for the Mental Health Association of Erie County and Compeer of Greater Buffalo, will be among the speakers. He took time out to talk with WBFO’s Marian Hetherly about his own abuse and how he advocates a proactive – instead of reactive – approach to wellness.
